Renton

Position: Position 2

Mary is a lifelong Renton resident, small business owner, and community builder focused on underserved areas and the arts. She is running to create a more welcoming and opportunity rich Renton where neighborhoods feel safe, downtown is vibrant, and employers and families see a future for generations.

Public safety is a core priority. Mary supports a partnership approach that pairs police with services, uses clear metrics, and fixes or ends programs that are not working. What she hears at the door mirrors what employers report: concerns about safety, mental health, and the rising cost of living, along with pride in parks and the trail system.

On economic development, Mary sees significant potential in downtown Renton. She wants to bring more of the creative community into the core, increase street level activation, and recruit employers that fit Renton’s strengths. Renton is a Boeing town, and she sees value in targeting suppliers and related firms while supporting local businesses, ensuring a diverse economy. She also favors moving the transit center to a location that supports congestion relief for ease of travel in and around growth areas.

On housing, Mary is candid that she is new to the policy details. She is committed to listening to residents and working with experts. She supports adding more homes while improving mobility so that growth works for current residents and for employers that need a reliable workforce. She recognizes some neighbors are uneasy about increased density and plans to lead with clear communication and practical solutions.

On revenue, Mary prefers targeted tools decided case by case, informed by data and relationships, rather than broad based approaches that do not match the problem. She believes Renton can capture investment as companies look around the region, and she wants that growth to reflect Renton’s identity and benefit people who are already here. This is a pragmatic, collaborative approach that fits the Eastside.
