Since joining the King County Council in 1994, Pete von Reichbauer has established himself as a pragmatic, experienced, and deeply committed public servant for South King County. With decades of leadership in both state and local government, Pete brings a long-standing record of fiscal discipline, regional collaboration, and meaningful results that have shaped the county’s infrastructure, economy, and public trust.
Pete has served in numerous leadership positions on the Council, including Chair of the King County Council and Chair of the Budget and Fiscal Management Committee, where he led budget negotiations during critical economic periods. His approach to governing has always centered on accountability and responsiveness—values that were especially evident during his tenure as Council Chair, when he held over 20 public meetings across King County to improve communication and rebuild trust amid secession threats in the 1990s.
Throughout his career, Pete has consistently prioritized public safety, transportation, and community investment. He played a central role in securing funding for transformative projects such as the Federal Way Transit Center, the 317th Street HOV ramps, and the I-5 Triangle interchange. He also helped rebuild Redondo Beach Drive and championed the preservation of sensitive environmental areas like the Hylebos Wetlands and Bingaman Pond through public-private partnerships.
Beyond infrastructure and environmental stewardship, Pete has shown a deep commitment to education and civic institutions. He helped launch and support numerous community-based organizations, including the Federal Way Boys and Girls Club and St. Francis Community Hospital. His early military service, culminating in the rank of Major, reflects a lifelong dedication to duty and public service.
Today, Pete continues to lead with a steady hand, serving as Chair of the Regional Policy Committee and the Government Accountability and Oversight Committee. His service on the Sound Transit Board and as Vice Chair of the Transportation, Economy and Environment Committee underscores his ongoing commitment to efficient governance and mobility solutions that support economic growth across the Eastside and South King County.
Pete von Reichbauer’s legacy is one of integrity, perseverance, and impact, one the Eastside Business Alliance is proud to endorse. His work has enhanced the region’s infrastructure, protected public resources, and supported vibrant, livable communities—making him a reliable partner for the business community and residents alike.
